Now it has assumed the epidemic status rather pandemic. India is said to be the capital of diabetes because of ever increasing number of diabetic patients with country. Diabetes 2, alone, is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Hyperglycemia itself carries little hazard; there are the consequences of disturbed carbohydrate and fat metabolism that are mainly responsible for the fatal complication. DM-2 mainly burns the heart, kidney, eyes, nerves and brain. This disease imposes two types of responsibilities on medical fraternity one is prevention of disease and second is prevention of its consequences. Till now definite cause has not been sorted out, but a list of risk factors are there, which can be modify to deferred the onset and to delay the progress of DM-2. Among the important risk factors are obesity, sedentary mode of life, and familial inheritance.
